Thank you for your interest! Commissioners provide for the community. Commissioners represent the community in matters that fall under the board's/committee's/commission's jurisdiction. They are typically one of the first steps in many decisions.
For example, the Parks, Community Services, and Trails Committee makes recommendations to the Moreno Valley City Council on decisions that come before the committee. You can find our agenda's on the City's website. You can also find meeting recaps on The Chair's Perspective!
Some of Moreno Valley's Commissions/Committees/Boards, like the PCSTC, don't have many commissioners which makes it hard to have meetings, so your willingness to join means a lot!
Becoming a commissioner in the City of Moreno Valley is very simple! All you have to do is attend one meeting of the Commission/Committee/Board that you want to join and then fill out an application. The Parks, Community Services, and Trails Committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Conference & Recreation Center, it's near City Hall & Council Chambers!
Please note, if you are over the age of 18, you are required to be a registered voter.
You can find the application to join the Parks, Community Services, and Trails Committee below. You'll need to email it to cityclerk@moval.org when you are finished with the application. Then, you just wait! Your application will go through many steps, like a background check, City Clerk's office, Mayoral approval, and then City Council approval. Once it's approved by the City Council, then congrats, you're a commissioner!
